Public Libraries in Wales are governed by the 1964 Libraries and Museums Act and work towards achieving the Welsh Public Library Standards. The Welsh Public Library Standards are the method by which the Minister with responsibility for libraries is able to measure whether the service is delivering on the 1964 Act.
Treharris Library
Treharris Library serves the southern end of the valley and all library services are available here on a smaller scale. Public Access Computers, Black & White Printer & Photocopier.
Treharris Library currently has a hub based at Treharris Comunity Centre whilst building works are carried out on the Library.

Dowlais Library houses the main local history and Welsh language collections for Merthyr Tydfil Public Libraries. There is free parking and a wide selection of books to choose from.

Merthyr Library Hub
The Library Hub in Merthyr Leisure Centre is run by Library staff alongside Leisure staff. With a collection of books about health and fitness as well as selection of Audlt and Childrenโs books, the Leisure Centre is fast becoming a one stop shop for all of your leisure needs.

Are you housebound due to age, infirmity or disability and unable to make it to any of Merthyrโs Libraries?
Are you shielding due to Covid19?
Perhaps a member of your family is housebound or you are a neighbour, carer or health professional who has contact with someone who is unable to leave the house?
If so, Merthyr Tydfil Public Libraryโs Homelinks Service is for you.
All you have to do is let us know that you would like to sign up to the Homelinks Service and we our specialist librarian will call you for a friendly chat. Sheโll spend some time getting to know you and your reading preferences including the types of books you like, your favourite authors and subjects, as well as finding out if you would like your selection in Large Print or Audio formats.
