Being a member of Merthyr Tydfil Libraries not only provides you with access to your library service during opening hours, it also provides you with 24 hour access through the Library Catalogue (Due to planned maintenance the library catalogue will not be available on Thursday 4^th April 2024. Sorry for any inconvenience caused.)

From the catalogue you can not only search for books and DVDs that we have in stock and log in to your library account to renew and reserve items but also access our FREE 24 hour library which includes eBooks, eAudiobooks, eMagazines, encyclopaedias and driving theory test questions.

These resources are available for you to access on a variety of devices from PCs and Laptops to Tablets and Smartphones and all you need is your library card number and the pin provided when you joined.

Theory Test Pro is a highly realistic online simulation of the UK’s driving theory tests for all vehicle categories.

Reading & Writing Fun for Children

With your Merthyr Tydfil Library Card, you have FREE access to Ziptales, a great literacy resource to inspire a lasting love of reading and writing in your child.

eBooks & eAudiobooks

You can not only borrow books and audio stock from us in person, but can also download electronic books and audiobooks to read on your eReader, Tablet, Smartphone or MP3 player.

Merthyr Tydfil Libraries provide you with access to three catalogues containing hundreds of FREE to download eBooks and eAudiobooks with loans ranging from 1 to 21 days. If the book you want is on loan you can reserve the title and you will be sent an email when your title is ready for loan.

If you finish a book before it is due back, you can easily return it or wait for it to return automatically at the end of your loan period.

eMagazines & eComics

You can do great things with your Merthyr Library Card including stream a great selection of premium eMagazines and eComics. With over 250 top Magazine and Comic Book titles to choose from our collection has something for everyone.

The Magazine and Comic Book collection is updated regularly and covers a large variety of interests – from sport to fashion; nature to business; tattoos to baking – and all of it for FREE, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week!

You can download the eMagazines and eComics direct to your Tablet, Smartphone, Laptop or PC/MAC.

Britannica Library

Whether it’s frogs or physics, gardening or geography, Britannica Online Library Edition covers it all!

The new look Britannica Library contains the same trusted and reliable content along with some new features to make finding the information you want easy and fun. There are three levels available; Junior for primary school students; Student for Secondary and college students and Adult For everyone else!

Britannica Library can be accessed for free on computers at your local library and remotely accessed 24 hours a day from your home computer, all you need is your library card number.

British Newspaper Archive – Community Edition

The British Newspaper Archive – Community Edition gives you unlimited access to the millions of scanned pages of newspapers that the British Newspaper Archive site holds from any of the public computers at your local library.

To view pages from the archive, you’ll need to register (for free) and be signed in to the service.

All the articles you view will be kept in your My Research area; your personal area in which to store and organise your favourite articles. Here you can create folders for different articles and categorise them however you like. The beauty of My Research is that you can make it whatever you want. You can also add notes to any of your articles to record your thoughts and track your progress.

Access to Research lets you discover a world of published academic research at your local library.

With in-depth information on topics including: art, architecture, business, engineering, history, languages, politics, philosophy, mathematics and the sciences this service is ideal for small businesses, researchers and students.
