Criw Celf: Life Drawing | Lluniadu o’r Byw

 

*Participants must attend all 6 sessions
Who: 17 – 20 year olds
What: Developing your portfolio with Life Drawing.
This course offers the opportunity to draw and study the human form within focused classes, helping to break down the principles, strategies and fundamentals of drawing. Different courses within art and design education such as foundation diploma and degree level, will appreciate seeing your ability to draw from observation.

Merthyr Comic Book Club

 

An after-school (and term-time holidays!) club for all young people (aged 4-16) in Merthyr to get together to draw, read and swap comics and collaborate on amazing projects! Bring your sketchbook! Bring some comics to share with us (and tell us why you like them!) and prepare to make some amazing new friends!

£2.50 a session.
Each week we will have a plethora of comic books and graphic novels for you to have a look at and discuss, and I’ll be setting some fun drawing assignments!
This club will be a laid-back hour for you guys to use however you like, and each week I’ll cover some fun drawing tips and games with you.

Shôn Dale-Jones’ new show was going to be all about love. But what do you do when you’re writing a show all about love, and everything goes dark? You find a new story. A story with scones after midnight, family WhatsApp groups, and Grandmaster Flash.
Possible is a playful, honest and heartfelt piece of storytelling that blurs live theatre with a kaleidoscopic dreamscape of animation and film (by Bear Thompson), underscored with original music performed live by John Biddle. It’s a show about love, creativity and finding the courage to explore the past, in order to shape the future.

Cerys Knighton | Glyn Brimacombe

 

An exhibition by two artists from south Wales, both of whom explore themes around mental health but with quite different approaches. They both produce work that is visually striking while also being fascinating and thought-provoking as they explore and respond to their own particular experience.
Cerys Knighton is a 27-year-old Welsh artist and PhD student researching the history and representations of manic-depressive illness. She creates artwork from both this research and her own experiences of living with bipolar disorder since childhood.
Cerys works in a few different mediums including ink pointillism and painted sculptures made with clay, driftwood, and dried flowers. Her work combines parts of the body with external bodies from the natural world to reflect on cycles of mood, sensory hypersensitivity, restoration, and decay.

Glyndwr Brimacombe is a self-taught artist who works from his home studio in the south Wales valleys.
His latest works, shown here, are abstract paintings using a variety of paint media including ultra-violet reactive fluid. These works are intended to be viewed under both white and ‘black’ light, where hidden details, colours and depths are revealed.
Glyn reveals his struggles with depression and anxiety and says “my painting is my therapy… The intention behind these pieces with multi-dimensions and hidden depths is a direct result of trying to understand and come to terms with these issues. I’m trying to demonstrate that what you think you see isn’t necessarily the full picture. You sometimes have to look from a different perspective or in a different light and I have found that that applies to the self as much as other people and life in general”.
His paintings are beguiling and richly fluid in colour and emotion and when black light is applied to them a seemingly bottomless depth is revealed with luminescing colours that are quite ephemeral. It is as if you are tumbling down the rabbit hole.

Local artist, William Jones, created some amazing Victorian Christmas Cards and they are the inspiration for this workshop. Come along and get familiar with lino printing techniques and make your own Christmas cards.
